This year in August and October The Netherlands is hosting its first Ecovillage Design Education course.
The ‘Ecovillage Design Education’ (EDE) is a program that was developed by the Global Ecovillage Network and Gaia Education. The EDE Course is the result of years of collaboration with educators all around the world. The training is designed for anyone who wants to work on sustainability education, sustainable development and transition activities.
Our TAC-lecturer Dr. Flor Avelino will contribute to the theory module of the EDE course in October on behalf of the Transition Academy and the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT), with the following two workshops on the 20th of October:
09:00 – 12:30 – Introduction to Sustainability Transition Theory
Sustainability transitions are processes of fundamental transformation towards more sustainable and resilient societies. This workshop gives insight into the basic principles of transition theory, based on interdisciplinary transition research. We use the concepts of complexity and co-evolution to understand how innovations emerge, grow and contribute to societal, systemic change (i.e. transitions). Participants will exercise with the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) as a tool to analyse transition dynamics in their own context.
15:00 – 18:00 – Power and Empowerment in Transition
Transitions towards more sustainable and resilient societies require human power and empowerment. This workshop dives into the dynamics of power and empowerment in the context of societal change and sustainability transitions. Insights on power and empowerment are based on social and political theory and psychology studies on intrinsic motivation. Through a POwer-IN-Transition (POINT) exercise, participant are challenged to identify their own power potentials.
