Public lecture series Freiburg

An innovative public lecture series about “Sustainability – Power and Change” will kick off on October 15th at Freiburg University. Nine different speakers – among who Dr. Flor Avelino on November 28th – will give lectures and be involved in discussions about the overriding questions: How are power and change linked up? Which kinds of power foster or prevent change? How useful are current concepts and theories of power for sustainability research and practice? Power in sustainability research and practice is important and is being more and more recognized by research in the sustainability field. Those who strive to foster change and to understand the stability of the established, unsustainable system must face issues of power.

The lecture series is set up with a group of master students from M.Sc. Environmental Governance of Freiburg University, in celebration of the 10th year of the master programme. The students are actively involved with the preparation of the lecture series and will lead the discussions. Following the lecture series, they will publish an edited volume on Power and Change in sustainability research and practice.
