Postdoc Research Vacancy – Urban Living Labs

Do you have an excellent academic track record and demonstrated capacity for interdisciplinary science research? Do you have a multi-disciplinary background and are you interested in sustainability transitions – and in urban developments that accelerate change? Then this might be the job for you.

DRIFT is seeking a driven, motivated and outstanding postdoc researcher interested in sustainability, urban sustainability transitions and their governance in cities with a passion in linking scientific understanding and insights to policy reality and action. The researcher will support the JPI funded research project GUST that focuses on the processes, practices and design of Urban Living Labs in Europe.

The GUST project studies, maps and assesses the concept of Urban Living Labs as a way to accelerate urban sustainability transitions. DRIFT takes a critical perspective on the emergence and rapid uptake of this context to question the extent to which it truly presents a new approach to urban development or mainly builds upon previous attempts to facilitate urban change. Taking the perspective of urban transitions, DRIFT seeks to identify the mechanisms and structures that actually serve to enable more transformative changes by studying living labs in practice and comparing these across different cities and contexts. The aim is to not only describe these cases but also to draw lessons for policy and practice and to develop a better concept for transformative urban living labs.

The project has started by the end of 2014 and we are now looking for a postdoc to help us finalise the project. The main tasks are to develop the final case study and developing it into a publication, as well as to develop a manual for practitioners and policy-makers before the end of the project late 2017. DRIFT is therefore looking for a researcher with an evident academic track record as well as a commitment to (contributing to) advancing sustainability in practice.
