Rob Raven, PhD (1975) is a full-time Associate Professor in the School of Innovation Sciences. His main theoretical background is in Science and Technologies Studies (STS) and Innovation Studies. Rob is interested in sustainability transitions, socio-technical innovation, strategic niche management and societal embedding of new technologies, in particular in the field of renewable energy and clean mobility. Rob has also worked at the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) where he coordinated national and European projects on societal acceptance of renewable energy and on technology transfer from R&D institutes to society.
Currently he is leading a number of research programs funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research on the above topics, whilst expanding his geographical focus to include emerging economies in Asia. He has published over 40 scientific articles in the field of Innovation Studies, energy and Science and Technology Studies and was editor of two special issues in Research Policy and Technological Forecasting & Social Change.

Rob is coordinator of the major ‘Sustainable Innovation’ at the University of Technology in Eindhoven, teaches courses on transition theory as well as on sustainable development and is currently supervising 4 PhD students. He is a founding member and part of the steering group of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN).
Rob has been closely involved in the original design of the mentoring program Pioneers into Practice and teaches on niches and transition-experiments in the post-academic course Transition Management. He was also part of the steering group for the design of a practitioner-oriented website http://www.transitiepraktijk.nl/en.
